RAM Truck Brand History

When you check out a new RAM 1500 truck, you may be impressed by its appearance and performance, but there is also a history behind the model. At Posner Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM, we’re proud to highlight the 2017 RAM 1500, and more importantly, appreciate the model’s rich and varied history.

RAM trucks were introduced under the Dodge brand in 1981 in two models: a basic “D” model with two-wheel drive, and a “Power RAM” W model with four-wheel drive. The pickups were also given numerical designations based on what they were rated to haul: 150 meant a half ton, 250 meant a three-quarter ton and 350 meant one ton. Because of their construction, RAM trucks were more aggressive in performance, weighed much less than other trucks, and less likely to rust.

In 1998, the pickups were upgraded with more features, including a “Quad Cab” with smaller doors, a digital odometer, and larger fuel tank, with the RAM 1500 formally introduced in 1999. The RAM truck received significant redesigns and upgraded features in the early 2000’s which included an all new frame, suspension, powertrains, and interiors. In 2010, the RAM truck badge was separated from the Dodge brand to become its own entity.

As a result of this continuing innovation and upgrades, the 2017 RAM 1500 provides exceptional performance. Although constructed to be a high-performance vehicle via V6 or V8 engine, the RAM 1500 also has optional air suspension, electronic steering, aerodynamic design, and active grille shutters. The pickup comes in eleven trims, including Express, SLT, HFE, Big Horn, Lone Star, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn Limited, with various features and options to suit your particular driving needs.

We think the RAM 1500 has come a long way and reflects a strong history of continuing excellence in power, performance, and design.  Visit our RAM dealership near Four Corners, FL and learn more about this exceptional truck. We hope to see you at Posner Park Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM soon!
